Namor is a member of the Avengers and a character in The New 52. As part of The New 52, Marvel's 2011 relaunch of their entire superhero line, Daniel Way Rick Remender, Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Carey served as the initial creative team of the company's new Namor The Sub-Mariner series, the first issue of which was released August 28, 2011. The three creators remained on the title for the first 16 issues. The relaunched series cements Namor's status as the half-human son of Leonard McKenzie and Fen, and sees him return to the surface along with Lady Dorma. Greatly distressed by the harsh treatment given to the oceans during his time as ruler of Atlantis, Namor decides to abdicate the Atlantean throne and return to full-time heroics. However, he now struggles with his lack of reputation with the greater public, which views him as a lesser superhuman with less impressive powers than those of his peers. Also, in The New 52 universe, Namor is a founding member of the Avengers and is a main member of the team.

BiographyEdit

The AbyssEdit

Namor, having recently taken up residence in the Boston area, deals with the assumptions and prejudices the public have about him. Despite the general populace believing that he is useless and ridiculing him about the stupidity of his powers, he quickly proves their misconceptions wrong and demonstrates his authority. Back at beach, he tells Lady Dorma that he is completely abandoning Atlantis and wants to pursue a life together with her on land. He is called in to deal with a waterfront attack by an underwater race of carnivorous monsters called The Abyss who devastated a small harbor. During his investigation, the beasts return and they must fight off an invasion to protect the civilians. Successfully driving off the predators, he reaches the conclusion that they must've taken some captives alive to bring back to their home. To find clues about them Namor pays a visit to marine biologist Christopher Wyan, the man who taught him how to use his powers and then tried to kill him. They take his guidance and descend into a deep abyss. Discovering an entire underground civilization, they realize that the Abyss are a dying species desperately trying to feed their children and queen. They live in an ancient Atlantean craft deep underwater whose inhabitants they seem to have killed long ago. Despite his reluctance to cause the extinction of an entire race, Namor has no choice and he seals them inside a volcano while Lady Dorma brings the captives to safety. Having saved the day, they return home. One of the police officers brings them a dog made homeless by the attacks; they decide to take him in and start calling him the Mariner-Dog.

The OthersEdit

Later, Namor and Dorma visit Wyan once more to ask him about who sank Atlantis, when suddenly, Sterla, an old friend of Namor's, attacks Wyan. Dorma stops her, and Namor prevents Dorma and Sterla from fighting each other. Sterla tells Namor that Madame Tidalla has been killed by Attuma, who has taken one of the badges of Atlantis.

Namor and Sterla teleport to Brazil, where they find Tidalla's corpse. They discover that Attuma has stolen the Badge of Victory, one of the Atlantean relics. Namor and Sterla decide to warn the Others, but they are suddenly attacked by Attuma's minions. After defeating Attuma's minions, Namor and Sterla teleport to Germany, where Sum Bud-Ee, the Laugher, is located. Attuma wants to obtain the Laugher's necklace, which is also one of the Atlantean relics. After a small chase, Namor encounters Manta.

As Namor meets up with Sterla and the Laugher, Attuma steals Sterla's gloves and escapes.
